Dr. McConnell obtained his BS and MS in EE/BME at MIT and his MD at Stanford. He trained in Cardiovascular Medicine and Imaging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and joined the faculty at Harvard. His early research in echocardiography has become known as “McConnell’s sign.” He then joined the Stanford faculty and became Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine, Electrical Engineering, and Molecular & Cellular Physiology. He was Director of Cardiovascular MRI, Preventive Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Health Innovation, and was PI for multiple NIH and AHA research grants and the top-enrolling MyHeart Counts mobile health study launching Apple’s ResearchKit. In 2015, he joined Google, leading digital health projects, including FDA-cleared wearable devices and AI software. He is now Chief Health Officer at Toku to advance AI and retinal imaging for screening and prevention of major health conditions. Dr. McConnell is a Fellow of the ACC, AAHA, SCMR, and ASE, and continues to see patients in Stanford Preventive Cardiology. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles, is a founding member of AHA’s Health Technologies Advisory Group, co-chaired AHA’s 2030 Impact Goal, and is the author of Fight Heart Disease Like Cancer.
